The Surrey Youth Games is an annual multi-sport competition, taking place over one weekend in June, involving teams of young people, (school years five-nine), from all eleven Surrey districts and boroughs, playing a variety of indoor and outdoor sports, including events for young people with disabilities.  Sadly, badminton is no longer one of the sports picked for the Surrey Youth Games.

Lightwater Junior Badminton Club have been proud to help organise and support the Surrey Youth Games, Surrey Heath badminton training and games day, in previus years.  All of our coaches attended the training sessions and games day and thouroughly enjoyed supporting the players.

The Surrey Heath team consists of junior players from local Surrey Heath badminton clubs, schools and new players to the sport.

This year the U11 team won joint 3rd place after a close fought play-off battle against Spelthorne that ended with both teams winning 3 games each and equal on points!  It seemed only fair that both teams were rewarded for their efforts with joint 3rd place.

The U14 team played some close matches and achieved a well earned 5th place (out of 10 teams).  The U14 team was also nominated for the Fair Play award which meant that the Surrey Heath received the Fair Play trophy overall.

A great, fun day had by all and some excellent badminton played in extremely hot conditions - well done everyone!

We've had success in previous years when the teams won Silver and Bronze in 2015 and 2013.  In 2016 both the U11 team and the U14 team won GOLD!
